A Magnificent Historic Large Antique Silver Tray Won by the last Irish Men’s Wimbledon Winner and the First Lady ever to win Olympic Gold.
A shaped oval Victorian antique silver two handled tray of very large size, with scroll border, the body is beautifully engraved and the centre has the following inscription ” Lawn-Tennis Championship of Ireland, Mixed Doubles 1st Prize, H.S. Mahony & Miss Cooper, All Comers singles 2nd Prize, H.S. Mahony, 1895-96.”
Harold Segerson Mahony was the last Irish Winner at Wimbledon (1896 Championship) Also being born in Scotland, the last Scottish Winner, prior to Andy Murray. Charlotte Cooper five times Wimbledon Champion 1895, 1896, 1898, 1901, 1908 and in the finals 11 times.
She was the first woman in history to win an Olympic Gold medal in 1900 Paris.
