Antique Silver George III Tea Urn.

A fine large George III silver neo-classical tea urn made in London in 1779 by the partnership of Richard Carter, Daniel Smith and Robert Sharp. The vase shaped urn has beaded borders and stands on a square pedestal foot mounted on four ball feet. It has cast reeded loop handles and the finial of the lid is formed as an acorn. The spigot is formed most impressively as a lions face and is surmounted by its original bone tap (To prevent heat transference). The urn is in good condition overall and made by one of the most famous makers of neo-classical silver of the third quarter of the eighteenth century. The urn was originally made to take a hot iron from the fire (an early form of heating element) - thus it is able to be unscrewed near the base.

This object incorporates old ivory and has been registered with Defra
