A richly coloured finer antique Serapi runner from North-West Persia, circa 1890-1900.  Wonderful colours and a larger border design almost as wide as the central pattern of repeating large floral motifs.  Excellent pale blues, soft biscuit gold tones, deep blues and rustic brick reds.  Condition is very good indeed, with a good pile height throughout and structurally very tough.  Original fringes and selvedges. Washed by ourselves and ready for an entrance hall, corridor or landing.  We always supply sturdy underlay with any of our carpets, rugs and runners.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. Serapi is the term often used for earlier examples from the Heriz area, this design and dye palette are more consist with earlier weavings from Heriz in Persia. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.

Request a home visit to arrange a time for us to show you this antique Serapi runner in situ, so you can see if the size, colour and design works in your own home.
