Antique Persian Gabbeh (meaning: carpet with a deep pile) from the southwest of the country.
The simple geometric design is typical of antique Gabbehs, which were made for domestic use, particularly as tent floor coverings to sleep on during the summer migration to the high pastures.
Wool pile on a wool foundation, with multiple brown wefts.
This rug will be part of our exhibition "TRIBAL WEAVINGS. BAGS, RUGS AND CARPETS FROM IRAN AND CENTRAL ASIA" as part of "COTSWOLDS CURATED" organised by the Cotswolds Art & Antiques Dealers' Association (CADA) from 2 to 10 April
