Northeast Persian Balouch rug dating to about 1900.

This rug with its idiosyncratic field design has great character: three columns of rectangles filled with essentially Turkoman guls, two of seven and a half cartouches and another column of nine smaller cartouches, form a very unusual field which catches the eye. The meandering main border, by contrast, is typical of rugs from this area.

The fantastic quality of the red dye based on the madder root, the lush wool and the great condition, including the original ends, all make for a very attractive example of village weaving.
