A beautiful pale and very rare antique Oushak rug in lovely original condition, the palette of dyes used are extremely rare to find, more often Oushak's were woven in larger sizes and in warmer colours. As this rug is from the late 19th century the dyes have faded and the abstract floral design is quite spectacular. With a golden yellow border and warm brick reds, it balances beautifully with the natural ivory wool main background colour. The rug is original condition with no damage or issues to report, a rare and collectable decorative item.
The weave on Oushak rugs is generally rather coarse using bigger knotting than Persian rugs, as the wool is extremely soft the pile height is medium high on this rug. A wonderful decorative antique rug ideal for many rooms. Oushak rugs or Ushak depending on the spelling preference, were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire. Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and soft dyes are not uncommon. Often younger Ushaks or Oushaks will be bright rich red in colour and use bolder geometric designs.
