Antique Malayer Carpet.
3.06 x 2.03 metres.
Antique Malayer rugs, originating from Northwest Persia, are well known for the unique quality of their designs, combining the bold, graphic forms of tribal and village weavings with the craftsmanship, precision, and delicate floral motifs one would expect from a fine Persian workshop piece.
This early Malayer carpet, dating to the beginning of the 20th Century, is an especially fine example of its type, with an understated colour palette featuring tones of muted bottle green, elephant grey, tan, camel, and ivory. This earthy composition serves to complement its elegant, well-balanced design, with an all-over graphic motif repeated across the field and framed by a wide border.
Preserved in very good practical condition for everyday use, though with some age-related restoration, finished to a high standard – its gracefully weathered vegetable dyes lend the work a characterful patina.
A handsome carpet, with a strikingly modern feel, which would add style and personality to any setting.
