This handsome Persian Kurdish weaving was made by a member of the Jaf tribe in the late 19th century. It is the front of a large bag with the classic field design of concentric lozenges which are hooked in the second layer. One large diamond just off the centre is standing out, which is a feature frequently found in Jaf bags of this type. The field is enclosed by a main border with a chain of star-filled octagons and a bottom border with a chevron pattern.
As is always the case in good Jaf bags, the quality of the wool and dyes is excellent. The wool pile is woven on a wool foundation.
There is some corrosion in the black, which is in keeping with the age of this bag, and it is overall in good condition.
