East Turkestan, mid 19th century. Large central Asian rug with a classic triple-medallion design on a red field, the medallions filled with flower heads and pomegranates, the main border depicting a repetitive cloud band motif. The colour scheme of this carpet is typical in its combination of terracotta-red, dark and bright blues and yellow - all natural dyes. Carpets from this area and this age are quite rare.
