Kashmir long shawl, or dochalla, dating to the late 19th century. The plain black centre to the central anchor medallion bears an inscription. Two large boteh- like motifs flank the centre, enclosed by an oblong of stylised branches with leaves.
The bottom and top ends are each composed of two separate borders which are sewn onto the field.
The shawl has a cotton label sewn onto the back and a number (stock number?) embroidered onto the front in one corner.
The shawl is all wool and in excellent condition. It comes with the box it was sold in bearing the inscription: "CACHEMIRE DES INDES"
