This fantastic looking antique Karaja rug dates from 1890-1900 and is in really marvellous original condition. A wonderful open floral design more like a decorative Heriz rug than a Karaja.  But as they are neighbouring areas in Northern Persia, designs would be copied and sometimes similar.  Professionally washed by ourselves and ready for the floor, it would be supplied with our sturdy rug underlay included in the price, plus free shipping.

With rich red natural dyes and soft pinks and blues, we can also see greens and a deeper blue border.  The pile height is very good and medium high all over, no stains or areas of restoration, a very good antique rug over 100 years old.

Karaja carpets and rugs were woven in a village in the northeast of the Heriz region of Persia, not far from the Azerbaijan Border.  The rugs often use 8 pointed star motifs and sometimes they weave in animals and people which adds great interest. They are easily recognisable with three repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs.  Occasionally they use more floral patterns such as this wonderful example.

Please request a home visit to arrange a convenient day and time for us to show you this antique Karaja rug in-situ.  We travel all over the UK, from London to Scotland showing our carpets and rugs to interior designers and private customers.
