Antique Karabagh Long Rug.
2.68 x 1.36 metres.
Antique Karabagh rugs are much sought after by collectors and designers as they boast some of the oldest and most varied designs of all Caucasian weavings, and represent perhaps the finest in quality and artistry amongst pieces from this region.
This attractive Karabagh gallery rug – or, ‘kelleh’ – features a dramatic design, with bold graphic motifs repeated in an all-over diamond layout, in tones of ochre red and camel, across a muted indigo field, framed by a wide tobacco colour border; a striking, playful palette, well suited to this piece’s expressive composition.
Retained in very good practical condition for everyday use. The vegetable-dyed colours used in its construction have taken on a mild, yet characterful, age related patina.
A sophisticated tribal piece, which would make a welcome addition to a variety of spaces.
