A magnificent antique Heriz carpet with exquisite soft colours, the ivory corner spandrels are very nice with the pale blues and soft greens. This is a finer Heriz piece which often sees them referred to as Serapi, a wonderful village carpet with a well proportioned central medallion and in good original condition. Serapi carpets are more intricate finer tribal weavings of the Heriz region hand-woven by Azerbaijan Turkish inhabitants close to the city of Heriz in North-West Persia.
They are famous among collectors because of their vivid vegetable dyes or soft earth tones that are woven on a geometric pattern.
