A very fine Antique French silver (1st standard.950 purity) small soup or large vegetable tureen made in Paris in circa 1890 by Jean-Baptiste Francois (tureen) and (stand) Paul Canaux.

They are made very much in the French style of the 1760s and 70s. The stand is engraved with the crests of the Maharajah of Baroda from whose estate this came.

At the time this was made he had the largest house (or rather palace!) in the world - The Laxmi Vilas Palace.

This was clearly made for his palace which was built in 1890. His palace was four times the size of Buckingham Palace.
