Antique English Wedgwood Creamware Soup Plate with Ship.

The Ship Flying the Flag of the Last German Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Francis II.

Circa 1775-90.

The Queen's ware plate in the "Royal" shape is transfer printed in black by Guy Green at Liverpool. The rim printed with five sprays of flowers.

The plate depicts a naval vessel with a yellow-painted flag with a double eagle.  I believe the flag is that of the last German Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Francis II, 1768-1835.

There is inscribed below the ship "LCBCC" probably the owner's initials and on the rim above "FMDCB".

Diameter: 9 1/2 inches (24cm)

Mark: Wedgwood impressed (faint)

Reference: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, for a pair of soup plates from the same service from The Charles E. Sampson Memorial Fund, 1965 Accession Number: 65.222.2, .3
