Antique Bidjar carpets from north west Persia are famed amongst Persian tribal village rugs for the quality of their tight precise weaves and often dazzling interaction of their designs and colours. Bidjar is situated in a corridor between the borders of Persia, Anatolia and the Caucasus so has a weaving tradition that encompasses a varied mix of cultural influences. This can be seen in the broad range of styles and patterns in Bidjar carpets which makes them unique and challenging in trying to distinguish them from rugs from other regions.  They are diverse and versatile pieces that would complement classic and contemporary settings alike.

This early Bidjar carpet has a fine tight weave which explains the clarity of its drawing and a pleasant overall pattern in different shapes and colour combinations, framed by a wide blue border. The attractive red background complements the harmonious vegetable dyed colours.

A hard-wearing and decorative rug to complement a wide variety of settings.
