About the object

Bakshayish carpets are woven in north west Persia where Heriz carpets are also woven.  They bear similar resemblance and have the same quality as their Heriz cousins but stand out more for their individual drawings and their lustrous wool.

This attractive example has a quiet formality with its monochrome overall drawing. The subtle blue-grey field provides great contrast to the natural dyed colours of the design, framed by a wide terracotta border.
