We have an impressive mid 19th Century Antique Aubusson tapestry carpet on offer here, with early natural dyes and elegant classical design.  The light blues and delicate pinks with cream tones create a wonderful combination of colours for this 170 year old French Aubusson.  In good order, with no holes or splits on a backing and with the right underlay, we would supply, it would sit flat and crease free on the floor.

The Aubusson manufacture of the 17th and 18th centuries managed to compete with the royal manufacture of Gobelins Tapestry and the privileged position of Beauvais tapestry.  Aubusson carpets were produced in the upper valley of the Creuse in central France, possibly developed from looms in family workshops established by Flemings that are noted in documents from the 16th century.

If you would like to view this early Aubusson at home or in our in showroom, please contact us to arrange a day and time.
