England | Circa 1860

The impressive three division bookcase with four pilaster uprights to both the upper and lower sections, the pilasters well carved with foliate scrolls and arabesques, and having carved Corinthian capitals to the upper section and carved ionic capitals to the lower section, the pilaster bases with carved egg and dart mouldings, the slightly stepped waist with carved dentil  moulding beneath, the substantial carved cornice everted over the pilaster capitals, the sides with finely carved linen fold panels to both top and base, each upper section with three oak adjustable shelves, each of the lower sections with one shelf.

The whole executed in the ‘antiquarian‘ manner in the English Renaissance Revival style fashionable in the second half of the nineteenth century, the crisp carving particularly noteworthy.
