19th Century Rosewood Games Box.

A Very Attractive Mid 19th Century Rosewood Card, Or Games, Box Having Charming Polychrome Cards And Chequered Strung Decoration To Hinged Top, Enclosing Paper Lined Interior With Divisions For Playing Cards And Counters, Raised On Original Turned Feet.

This attractive, charming little box is most practical, whilst also being most beautiful. It dates to the late regency, or possibly the William 4th period and is typical of that period in terms of design.

It is constructed from attractive, well figured, rosewood veneers, it boasts some particularly well executed inlaid decoration, along with some really rather lovely polychrome decoration of playing cards. Its fair to say that this decoration is now well worn, in terms of how rubbed it is, but certainly it is still most attractive indeed.

Overall the box is in good, ready to use condition and comes supplied with working lock and key. It has been through our workshop before being presented for sale where it has been cleaned and naturally waxed in the traditional manner.

This would make a fabulous present for a loved one, or even to ones self as a treat and because the divided interior would make it most useful indeed for the storage of a wide variety of little bits and pieces, not just the cards of games counters it was originally made for.

Circa 1840.
