19th Century Regency Rosewood Breakfront Side Cabinet.

A Very Fine Quality Early 19th Century, Regency Period, Rosewood Breakfront Side Cabinet, Or Cheffonier, Having Original Marble Top Over Four Upholstered Panelled Doors, Enclosing Various Adjustable Shelves, Flanked By Elegant Scrolling Pilasters To Each End With Brass String Decoration, Raised On Original Plinth Base.

Quite often these types of cabinets were made to stand in grand dining rooms, alongside various other serving tables and wine coolers as part of a suite of furniture. This is because of course they offered a slightly different, more elegant, storage solution to the sterotypical Georgian, or regency sideboard. They could also sometimes have been made and utilised in drawing rooms and entrance halls as well. This would be particularly good for an entrance hall due to the overall shallow design.

Quite often you find regency side cabinets like this in either two door, or elongated three door form and it is quite rare to find a four door example like this one. Personally, aside from the practicality of not having one huge central door we think there is also a significant amount of added elegance to this design, which is even further enhanced by the breakfront shape.

Constructed from very high grade rosewood veneers, which contrast beautifully with the brass strung decoration it has real elegance and oozes class and sophistication. It would be a great addition to just about any room of the house.

The marble top is original and therefore it is not surprising to find a few blemishes. In particular there is one small, historic repair to the front corner of the marble, but this repair has been professionally carried out and is extremely solid now. There are also various small dents and ships in various places around the edges of the marble, but you have to look extremely hard to locate these and they are certainly of no concern whatsoever.

The fabric finish to the doors has been recently replaced and therefore is in excellent condition. However should one wish to change it for a different fabric of their own choosing this would be very simple to have a local restorer, or upholsterer to carry out as the panels just pop out from the back of the doors.

As with all items we offer for sale the side cabinet has been inspected by our traditional antique furniture restorers at our workshops and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale, ensuring that it is ready to place straight into the home or office.
