19th Century Mahogany Window Seat Hall Bench.

A Good Quality Mid 19th Century, Victorian Period, Mahogany Window Seat, Or Hall Bench, Having Well Figured Rectangular Top With Turned Rolls Applied To Each End, Raised Elegant Turned Tapering Legs.

Hall benches from the 19th century often follow a fairly typical design, but can be found in an extremely wide variety of sizes, designs, qualities and periods. This is a good size and also relatively good quality, dating to the late middle of the 19th century.

It is constructed from a very dense, very rich, high quality mahogany, which is why it has retained a good colour and remains in good condition. It also has quite elegant turned rolls to each end, these can often be unattractive and almost a bit of an afterthought, not so with this particular example however.

The legs on which it is raised are elegant, of typical design but very well executed.

Absolutely perfect for a huge variety of different spaces around the home, we would suggest underneath the window, along a narrow hallways wall, behind a settee, at the end of a bed and even as a narrow coffee table as just a small cross section of those potential uses.

The condition of the bench is very good, with no obvious aesthetic deficiency, or structural issues of any kind this piece is very much ready to place into immediate service. As with all items which we offer for sale it has been inspected in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish in the traditional fashion.

Circa 1860.

Height 19.5 inches.
