A well designed late 19th Century mahogany pedestal cabinet drawn from the architectural Neo-Classical designs of Robert Adam.
English circa 1880.
Constructed with choice cuts of mahogany timber and fine carvings, the solid mahogany top of stepped architectural form over a stiff leaf carved frieze, flanked by protruding carved rams heads to each corner, over a panelled door centred by a neoclassical oval carved leaf paterae with carved roundels to each corner, opening to reveal a shelved storage space, the whole being raised on a moulded, stepped and beaded plinth.
A well proportioned pedestal cupboard that would have originally been used within the dining room, having wonderful colour and fine carving making this pedestal ideal to use in conjunction with a stone or marble bust / object in most parts of the home.
Please note this has always been a freestanding pedestal cupboard as often they have been adapted.
