A charming and very good quality mid 19th century camphor wood, leather and brass bound Military Campaign Trunk.

Having studwork decoration and hinged lid with working lock and key, flanked by original brass swan neck handles to sides.

Originally, this trunk would have been made for use in the army to transport from one battlefield to the next, being placed upon a couple of trestles in the tents at each location, hence the carrying handles and ability to lock it.

Interestingly, it is constructed from very high quality camphor wood which has then been covered with leather and brass bound decoration, both of which have aged absolutely beautifully to retain a lovely mellow colour and patina.

Nowadays of course this would make the perfect coffee table with storage, or could simply be used as a storage chest/trunk in a variety of different places around the home whilst allowing the purchaser to imagine all sorts of tales and stories from its' past.

Overall the condition is very much worn, or used, but the item has been sympathetically cleaned, waxed and tidied in our workshops ensuring it is now in home ready condition.

It really is a quite beautiful piece and also incredibly functional and very much fit for its original purpose.

Circa 1840.
