About the object

An early 19th century  base metal Snuffbox in the form of a Fox's Head, the interior gilt, Birmingham circa 1830. The lid is engraved with a fox-hunting scene above the name 'Roger Alfred Grundy.'

Boxes of this form are more usually of silver and were made in Birmingham from circa 1826 to circa 1835, usually by Joseph Willmore or Nathaniel Mills. This version is likely to have been made in one of these Birmingham workshops.
