A Handsome Early 19th Century French Cherry Wood
Farmhouse Dining Table Having Very Well Three Plank
Top With Cleated Ends And Three Good Size Drawers
To Frieze Raised On Faceted Legs
( A superb example of its type this early 19th century
farmhouse table is significantly earlier in date than the
majority of similar tables found on the market. It has also
retained a wonderful mellow colour and patina to the cherry
wood and the top is constructed from just three planks
avoiding the narrow boards which are often used and can
move around significantly over the years creating a very
uneven surface. It also features three frieze drawers and is
a very good and useful size, more than comfortably seating
8 people with any type of chairs. On the subject of chairs there
is no concerns here with stretchers making it awkward to sit at
and at some point historically somebody has sympathetically
added an inch or two to the bottom of the legs to make up for
the wood that has no doubt rotted away after standing on damp
stone floors for much of its life which means that there is good
clearance from the floor to the undercarriage of the table and
it is easy for any person to sit comfortably at. All in all this is a
beautiful table with a huge amount of character and function ready
to go straight into a home. )
