A stunning mid 19th century Camphor Wood Military Campaign Trunk, having beautifully figured lift up lid.

With original brass carrying handles, original brass escutcheon and original brass bound decoration.

This trunk would originally have been made for an officer in the army to use and for him to transport around from one battlefield to the next, being placed in his tent at each location.

Hence the carrying handles and most unusual lock which has a bell in it that rings when it is being locked or unlocked.

This is clearly some kind of basic alarm device making it obvious should somebody be trying to help themselves to the contents that they shouldn't be doing so.

It has been constructed from some of the most highly figured camphor wood that we have ever come across and this is a wood which is well known for omitting a pleasant, but strong aroma to keep the moths and bugs away from the contents.

Nowadays of course this would make the perfect coffee table with storage, or could simply be used as a storage chest/trunk.

It would suit a variety of different places around the home, whilst allowing the purchaser to imagine all sorts of tales and stories from its no doubt rich and glorious history!

Circa 1860.
