A very good quality mid 19th century burr walnut pedestal desk, of good practical proportions. Having attractive gilt tooled leather inset top, over nine frieze drawers with replacement brass handles. Raised on original plinth bracket feet.

This pratcical desk boasts very attractive and well figured walnut veneers and is excellent quality throughout with the all important drawers still running as smoothly as the day they were made. The handles are later replacements, it probably would have started life with turned wooden knobs, however the current brass ring drop handles look great on the piece and are very much of a design which was widely used in victorian times.

The practical size is a breath of fresh air for those with little available floor space to set up a working from home environment, as it manages to be big enough and offer enough storage for practical day to day working.

Georgian and Victorian pedestal desks vary wildly in style, shape, size, finish and quality, and this example is rcertainly in the top bracket in that respect.

The desk does come into three pieces for ease of transportation as is common for this period and that of course makes it even easier to get into absolutely any location around the home which the purchaser desires.

As with all items which we offer for sale this 19th century desk has been attended to in our workshops, by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a traditional wax polish finish to ensure that it is absolutely ready to be placed straight into a home, or office environment.
