An elegant pair of boxwood chimney ornaments in the neo-classical design. Each is inlaid with purpleheart and raised on a circular turned plinth base which is possibly Lignum Vitae.
This extremely hard wood is indigenous to the Caribbean and the northern coast of South America and has been an important export item to Europe since the beginning of the 16th century. Circa 1780.
