An 18th century heraldic needlework appliqué, Italian, circa 1790.
Designed with a crest of woven linen and gilt metallic threads bearing a couched metallic thread and coloured velvet tree motif, within a couched metallic thread on linen surround of scroll design, surmounted by a similarly worked coronet, applied to a vegetable dyed cotton velvet, within a 19th century oak frame, gilt slip, glazed, appliqué only 18.4cm high, 13.5cm wide.
