A fine 18th century English terracotta plaque, depicting the marriage of Cupid & Psyche, circa 1765. The scene is derived from an engraving of the famous Sardonyx antique cameo (now in the Boston Museum) from the Marlborough Collection of Gems. It was widely copied in the 18th century, appearing on chimneypieces, furniture and on the famous blue and white plaques produced by Josiah Wedgewood.

The current bas relief is distinguished by the fine and lively modelling of the figures and the pastoral setting absent in the original antique cameo.
