18th Century Chippendale Mahogany Tallboy / Chest On Chest.

An exceptional quality mid 18th century Chippendale period mahogany chest on chest, or tallboy. Having attractive carved decoration throughout, with two short, two long and secretaire writing drawer to top part. Over three long drawers to bottom retaining original brass swan neck handles throughout, flanked by elegant canted corners. Raised on unusually shaped original ogee bracket feet.

An absolutely superb example of its type this particular tallboy is in exceptionally good clean condition and retains a quite wonderful untouched colour and patina to the mahogany. It has received very little restoration to speak of aside from the usual cleaning, polishing and general tidying.

All of the swan neck brass handles are original and all of the drawers still operate and function perfectly which is most certainly down to the quality of the original construction and the high grade secondary timbers used within the carcass and drawer linings of this piece.

Tallboys, or Chest On Chests as they are sometimes known are such useful, functional pieces of furniture. This item is as fit for purpose as the day it was made, with the added bonus of it being very untouched and charming, which is really quite something when you consider that it was originally constructed over 250 years ago.

The ogee feet are not only original, but of a most unusual design pattern which we have not seen before, another example of how special this piece is.

Like all of the items which we offer for sale this Walnut Stool has been attended to in the traditional manner at our workshops before being offered for sale, by our highly trained and skilled antique furniture restorers including a light clean and natural wax polish to ensure that it is in retail condition and ready to be placed immediately into the home or workplace.
