A RARE 15TH CENTURY NORMAN OAK AUMBRY OF UNUSUAL RAKED FORM. CIRCA 1470.
THIS FINE AUMBRY HAS A HEAVY SINGLE PLANKED DOOR WITH IRON STRAP HINGES, THE CENTRE DEEPLY CARVED WITH ST BARBARA WITHIN AN ELLIPTICAL OVAL, IN HER RIGHT HAND SHE HOLDS A CHALICE AND PALMS IN HER LEFT HAND, AROUND THE OVAL ARE STARBURST VENTILATION HOLES.THE TWO FRONT UPRIGHTS WITH PIERCED VENTILATION HOLES IN AN M SHAPE. THE SINGLE BOARDED SIDES ARE UNUSUALLY RAKED BACK MOST PROBABLY FOR STABILITY. EACH SIDE HAS A CENTRAL GOTHIC CROSS SHAPED VENTILATION HOLE, THE BACK IS OF TWO WIDE OAK BOARDS. A VERY PLEASING MEDIEVAL COLOUR. VERY OLD RESTORATIONS.
