BADA Friends Support Temple Newsam Acquisition.
The BADA (British Antique Dealers’ Association) Friends is delighted to announce that this year the charity has supported the purchase of a footstool for Temple Newsam in Leeds.
On thanking the BADA’s Cultural & Educational Trust committee Adam Toole, Curator at Temple Newsam said:
“I’m extremely grateful to the BADA Friends for funding the acquisition of this wonderful footstool for Temple Newsam’s collection.
"When I was first alerted to it, I naturally conducted research to find out more, but I could find little information pertaining to stools of this type. However, rather counterintuitively, this actually strengthened the case for preserving it in a public collection – it has proved impossible to find a comparable example with a similar carved-carpet type top, which only highlights its rareness.
"I’m delighted that with the BADA Friends’ generous assistance, we’ve been able to secure this rare survivor for current and future generations of scholars and visitors to Temple Newsam, where it will join one of the pre-eminent furniture collections in the UK, including other examples of well-preserved original furnishing textiles”.
Anne Green, BADA Friends Director said: “Regional museums are facing such challenging times at present, so the BADA Friends charity is delighted to have funded this purchase for Temple Newsam and in doing so adding to the house’s important collection for future generations to enjoy.”
