Victorian Burr Walnut Decanter Box

For BADA Week 2023, Mark Goodger Antiques are delighted to offer this Victorian Burr Walnut Decanter Box.

The Decanter Box of rectangular form is veneered in burr walnut with a domed lid, brass edging and a circular brass escutcheon. The beautiful burr walnut veneer to the exterior really shows the complexity of the burr. When opened the decanter box reveals an extensive selection of glassware housed in a satinwood lining.

The box includes three goblets, five small glass, two mixing glasses, two juice glasses and four decanters with faceted stoppers. To the inside of the lid, sprung brass clasps secure the goblets from falling during transit, the four decanters are located in their own individual partitioned trays.

The front of the box folds down to allow access to the felt lined compartment used to store the glasses. All the glasses feature a star like etching decorating the bodies. The box is finished with a high quality Bramah lock which works by pushing the key into the escutcheon while turning it simultaneously. The Box dates to the late 19th century during the Victorian period circa 1880.

Country House Oak Post BoxAnother highlight is this charming Country House Oak Post Box.

The post box is beautifully suited to a country house crafted from oak with carved dome top, cylindrical body and stepped plinth base imitating the traditional full sized British red post boxes.

The Post Box is complete with brass hinged hatch having painted ‘letters’ logo. Below the hatch is a lockable compartment for accessing the letters within. To the front, a small window displays the original collection time label.

Beneath the window, a small diamond shaped plaque shows the Registered Kite mark RD. The Post Box dates to the late Victorian period circa 1870.

Both boxes will be on view on Mark Goodger Antiques Stand at the CADA Fair which opens to the public from November 17-19, 2023 at Compton Verney, Warwickshire. Click here for further details.
