Racehorse and Jockey by Franz Xavier Bergman

For BADA Week 2023 Hickmet Fine Arts have chosen to feature a selection of fine sculpture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
 

Notable examples include the sculpture Racehorse and Jockey by Franz Xavier Bergman (1861-1936), pictured right.

An early 20th century Austrian bronze study of an alert racehorse with its jockey. The piece is signed Bergman ‘B’ in an amphora vase, dated circa 1900, and measures 26cm high x 27cm wide x 9cm deep.


Vested DancerVested Dancer is a French Art Deco chryselephantine figure of a beautiful young dancer wearing a long flowing skirt holding a stylised pose by Demétre Chiparus (1886-1947).

The work, which dates to circa 1925, is signed D Chiparus and measures 55cm high x 26cm wide x 13cm deep.
 

Also featured is this charming late 19th century French bronze animalier study of a resting rabbit by Ferdinand Pautrot (French, 1832-1874).

Lapin AssisEntitled Lapin Assis, the piece is signed Pautrot and measures 8cm high x 14cm wide. Dating from circa 1870 it has exquisite hand chased surface detail and a rich brown patina.


All three pieces will be on view on Hickmet Fine Arts Stand at the CADA Fair which opens to the public from November 17-19, 2023 at Compton Verney, Warwickshire. Click here for further details.
