About

The Mark Gallery

The Mark Gallery is situated close to Marble Arch in central London. Since the early 1970s gallery owner and founder Helen Mark has developed a passion and expert knowledge of icons and the gallery has become a renowned source of high quality Russian and Greek icons spanning the 16th-19th centuries.

All of our icons have been purchased from bona fide sources which include international fairs and private collections .

Committed to building long-term client relationships, The Mark Gallery offers valuation and restoration services to complement its extensive icon portfolio. Our portfolio includes many rare and precious icons. Rarity tends to enhance the value of an icon.

As a gallery with over 40 years history of dealing in icons, we have a substantial information archive plus the experience to help us assess the quality, rarity and authenticity of an icon.

An icon’s condition is important and a reputable dealer will be able inform a client about any restorative work and overpainting. At Mark Gallery, we see a great many icons and we are qualified to assess the significance of any repairs.

Good provenance can help establish authenticity and title of an icon but, because of the chequered history of many icons, a provenence does not always exist. The absence of a complete provenance need not however be a cause for alarm, especially if you are working with an experienced icon dealer.

Over the past 40 years, the Mark Gallery has built a substantial and unique collection of fine and rare icons. A selection of some of its icons and prints are now available for sale from the company website.
