About

Berwald Oriental Art

Berwald Oriental Art specialises in Chinese ceramics, sculpture and works of art from the Han dynasty through to the Qing dynasty.

From the earlier periods the company has an extensive selection of glazed and painted vessels and figures.

From the later periods the emphasis is on famille verte, and blue and white pieces from the Kangxi and Transitional periods, and Imperial porcelain.

Modern British Art

More recently Berwald have begun using their wealth of experience to provide the same high level of service and expertise to clients in the world of Modern British art.

Berwald keeps a very select stock of Modern British paintings and sculpture, mostly from the 50’s and 60’s.

They have an excellent selection of Alan Davie and William Gear paintings along with other artists including Gillian Ayres and Alan Reynolds.

In sculpture they have a selection of pieces by Reg Butler and Robert Adams.

John Berwald

John Berwald established the company in 1986, opening their first gallery in Kensington Church Street a few years later.

In 2005, to take advantage of the strength of the Chinese market in America, he opened a gallery on 57th Street in New York.

After six successful years, John decided to relocate the company back to London and has now established his new premises on Clifford Street in Mayfair.

Fairs and Exhibitions

John regularly holds special exhibitions in both London and New York, sometimes to coincide with Asian Art in London, or Asia Week in New York.
