Ted Few brings the Hohenzollern Bronze Collection to Art Antiques London

For his first specialist exhibition in seven years, BADA European Sculpture expert Ted Few will be bringing a very special collection of pieces to Art Antiques London this month.

The Hohenzollern Collection of Ancient Bronze Statuettes from Sigmaringen is an exceptional cache of forty-seven sculptures, ranging from the Archaic to the Late Hellenistic style.

The collection is all the more remarkable given their unlikely discovery, as Ted explains, “I discovered this collection completely by chance whilst on a trip to Germany, where I was hoping to buy a small group of European paintings.

“Catalogued superficially, and without illustration or publicity, I was amazed to find it ingloriously housed in a deserted corner of a makeshift saleroom.

“As I examined the figures individually and began to get some idea of their chronological and topographical range I became excited, albeit doubtful that my efforts to buy them would succeed.

“It is unusual to find an unbroken cache of small statuettes such as this, especially when they are of noble, not to mention royal, provenance.”

Over the intervening 15 years Ted and a number of academics have painstakingly catalogued the statuettes and this will probably be the first time they have been exhibited publicly.

The collection will be exhibited at Art Antiques London, Albert Memorial West Lawn, Kensington Gardens, London from 11am on Friday 24 June.

Anybody wishing to view them in advance can arrange an appointment for the week commencing June 13. There will also be an illustrated hand list available at the Fair.
