This Spring marks a double anniversary for BADA Members Suffolk House Antiques, who will be celebrating 25 years since the opening of their shop in Yoxford, and the 21st anniversary of Andrew Singleton’s election to BADA Membership for expertise in 17th and 18th century oak and country furniture.

Situated near the East Suffolk coast and close to the popular seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold, Suffolk House will be marking their 25 years with a special anniversary selling exhibition from Saturday 21 May to 18 June.

Andrew has gathered together a collection of over ninety pieces for the exhibition, many of which have come from private collections.

Pieces range from a very small early 18th century burr oak chest of drawers and a burr elm bureau bookcase from the same period, to a rare collection of nine 17th century joint stools put together by an eccentric collector from Norfolk.

Also included are a Charles II four poster bed from a house in West Suffolk and a rare William and Mary oak wing chair with contemporary crewel work upholstery.

Among the works of art featured is an extraordinary Queen Anne cut parchment representation of Adam and Eve surrounded by birds and animals in the Garden of Eden, dated 1711 and with an inscription in Latin.

There is also a charming Charles I period portrait of a very attractive lady, some very interesting early carvings and delftware including another representation of Adam and Eve, this time on a 17th century blue dash charger.

Speaking about the anniversary exhibition Andrew Singleton said: “I hope many of my customers from the past 25 years will be able come along to the exhibition. They can be sure of a glass or two of something suitable to help me celebrate! I cannot promise to continue for the next 25 years but I have no intention of retiring.”

All pieces from the exhibition can be view at the Suffolk House Antiques website

The exhibition is open from May 21 – June 18 at:
