Pair of late 18th Century mahogany Hall Chairs, bearing the crest of Sir Lionel Darell 1st Bt., or his son Sir Harry Verelst Darell, 2nd Bt. Circa 1795.
Provenance
Sir Lionel, 1st Bt, created 1795, of Ancaster House, Richmond Hill, Surrey. MP for Lyme Regis and subsequently for Hendon (1784-1802. He was born 1742 and married 1766 Isabella, daughter of Timothy Tullie, a director of the East India Co. Sir Lionel was chairman of the Court of Directors of the East India Co. He died 1803. His son, Sir Harry Verelst Darell, 2nd Bt, born 1768, was the Honorable East India Company Resident of Eatwalli and Calpu. He died in India in 1828. The baronetcy is still extant and the country seat was Saul Lodge, Gloucestershire.
