A fine set of George II mahogany hall chairs made for Sir Thomas Bootle for the banqueting hail at Lathom House, Lancashire and almost certainly executed by William Masters, the shield shaped backs each inlaid with Sir John Bootle’s armorial crest depicting a lion wreathed with foliage, the shaped dished seats raised on shaped legs also with dished centres.
Provenance
Sir Thomas Bootle who died in 1753 was the Chancellor to Frederick, Prince of Wales. William Masters ran a flourishing business from his workshops at “The Golden Fleece”, Coventry Street, Nr Piccadilly, London. He as also worked at Blair Castle in Perthshire
