Literature

The white rhinoceros has a much longer horn than the black rhinoceros. One blond horn was measured with a record length of 1.58 metres. The black rhino is also distributed across a far wider territory than the white, who today seems confined to an area north of the Orange river in South Africa.
A measure of the esteem in which these rhinoceros horn knobkerrie or sceptre were held is evidenced by an engraving of 1833 of the Basotho chief Mosheshwe, ( E. Casalis Les Bassoutos, pub. 1859 ) showing him holding a knobkerrie to denote his chiefly status.
