Literature

Microliths are small implements that are peculiar to the middle stone age and are fairly common in Surrey on the greensand soils. A number of them would have been used together to form a composite tool such as a fishing spear. The sharp flints would have been set into wood, bone or antler to make the required tool. Scrapers and borers are found in all shapes and sizes and were used chiefly for leather and woodworking. Scrapers are flint flakes with all or part of the edge blunted by the removal of tiny flakes so that the flint would not cut into and spoil the work.
